The purpose of this handbook is to assist coaches in identifying student-athletes who may be having difficulty and to help coaches learn to respond appropriately and effectively with those student-athletes. Chapters provide information on mood disorders (includes suicide intervention), anxiety disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse and management issues.

This publication has been developed to help individuals and groups interested in addressing the issue of suicide in their communities. It is a framework to guide First Nations in assessing and planning a suicide prevention plan. Communities are encouraged to adapt the tool to meet their own needs. The tool kit also provides information and research on suicide prevention to increase awareness and encourage discussion.

A guide to managing stress in crisis response professions

This pocket guide focuses on general principles of stress management and offers strategies that can be incorporated into the daily routine of crisis response managers and workers. It includes sections on: understanding the stress cycle; managing stress before, during, and after an event; promoting a positive workplace environment; self-care for crisis response professionals; and references and recommended reading.

American Indian and Alaska Native resource manual

This manual is designed as a tool to help NAMI state chapters and affiliates to better understand what is involved in an American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN) outreach campaign and aid in the creation of an outreach plan. It discusses the need for AI/AN outreach, development of cultural competence, creation of AI/AN outreach plan using NAMI examples, evaluation of efforts and sharing experience with other NAMI chapters and affiliates.

Preventing suicide: A resource for teachers and other school staff

This 18-page guide briefly describes suicidal behavior in adolescence and risk and protective factors, provides general strategies on how to identify and manage students at risk (improving school climate, building self-esteem in students), and explains how to respond to a suicide or attempt in the school community.
