Program or Intervention Summary

The Be Sensitive, Be Brave for Suicide Prevention (BSBB for SP) training infuses culture and diversity throughout a foundational community helper workshop on suicide prevention. Community members learn to act as eyes and ears for suicidal distress, and to connect individuals from culturally diverse populations to help or support.

GOALS AND OUTCOMES:

BSBB for Suicide Prevention (BSBB for SP), participants learn culturally-informed skills to recognize suicide risk, ask individuals if they are thinking about suicide, and connect them with help. BSBB for SP discusses navigating conversations about suicide across diverse populations, with the aim of equipping community members to be culturally responsive within their communities. n nWith a cultural and diversity lens:

  • Learn how to identify signs of suicide
  • Practice sensitively and confidently asking individuals if they are considering suiciden
  • Learn how to connect individuals at risk of suicide with the appropriate resources & community supportsn
  • Learn to approach suicide prevention in a culturally responsive mannern nIMPLEMENTATION &

POPULATION SERVED:

The BSBB for SP workshop is a 2-hour interactive workshop designed for community members/helpers of all ages: youth (helpers high school aged or older), adults, & older adults. The BSBB workshops are also applicable for adult helpers of school aged children. A BSBB for SP Trainers Academy is available for individuals who aim to become certified BSBB for SP trainers.
