The University of North Carolina at Greensboro recently received the 2015 Active Minds Healthy Campus Award. It is one of only five universities across the U.S. that received this award for prioritizing student well-being and health and engaging in innovative work to develop a healthy campus community.“UNCG’s efforts are a model for campuses nationwide and demonstrate what is possible when students, staff, faculty and administrators from across an entire university work together so that every student has the opportunity to thrive,” said Sara Abelson, Active Minds’ vice president of student health and wellness. UNCG’s efforts include making wellness and health a part of the school’s strategic plan and engaging students to provide peer health and mental health education on campus. The university also provides innovative programs and services for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, as well as student athletes. The Spartan Wellness Living-Learning Community for first-year students fosters eight areas of wellness, ranging from emotional and spiritual to physical and occupational.
