Safe Messaging During the Holidays

Hello readers! We’re back with another column in our series on safe messaging for suicide prevention. During the holidays, we can play a key role in promoting hope and compassion. Here are some tips on how to message about mental health throughout the holiday season:

  • Acknowledge that the holidays mean different things to everyone and can bring up a wide variety of emotions—and that’s ok!
  • Encourage people who are struggling to reach out to the 988 Lifeline, which offers free, confidential, caring support 24/7/365.
  • Help raise awareness that suicide rates are lowest in December compared to other months of the year.

Thank you for helping to spread the word. Look for more tips on safe messaging coming soon!
