WASHINGTON: Behavioral Health Navigators Step In Where Police Step Out

A behavioral health outreach program is now available to every law enforcement agency in Kitsap County. Initially launched in the city of Poulsbo, the program aims to support people in contact with law enforcement who are struggling with behavioral health issues. The program includes behavioral health “navigators,” who collaborate with police, family members, lawyers, courts, and health care providers to connect people with services and supports. Project Manager Kim Hendrickson said behavioral health navigators assisted 240 people through October of this year, including 27 minors. Hendrickson expects the program’s expansion will help strengthen its impact.
