The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released an analysis of suicide trends among American Indian/Alaska Natives (AI/AN). Using data from the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS), the analysis found that AI/AN suicide decedents were younger and had higher odds of living in a nonmetropolitan area than non-Hispanic whites who died by suicide. Deaths of friends and family, as well as alcohol use, occurred more often among AI/AN decedents than among non-Hispanic white decedents.
