The University of Rhode Island (URI) aims to expand its suicide prevention efforts. The university recently joined JED Campus, a program that helps campuses evaluate and enhance their mental health, substance abuse, and suicide prevention activities. To help identify areas for improvement, URI has carried out an assessment of its current efforts. Those include its Counseling Center, Health Services, Mental Health First Aid training, and collaboration with the county’s Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds program. “We do have many resources, but this process will help us better integrate them so we eliminate any gaps,” said Christopher Nasin, Health Services medical director.
