HHS Announces a $4.9 Million Grant to Reduce Suicides on College and University Campuses

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $4.9 million to 17 colleges and universities for suicide prevention and mental health promotion activities. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) will distribute the grant funding through its Garrett Lee Smith Suicide Prevention Program. The funding will support a wide range of activities for mental health promotion, suicide prevention, substance abuse prevention, and other prevention activities. These include training faculty, students, and staff to recognize a student at risk for suicide and to intervene.
