The U.S. Department of Defense has established a peer support call and outreach center for active duty service members and their families. The BeThere Peer Assistance Line offers confidential, around-the-clock services via chat, email, phone, and text. Administered by the TriWest Healthcare Alliance, the center is staffed by veterans and their family members, who provide assistance in dealing with everyday life challenges. “We are honored to support our service members and their families as they get connected to needed resources through the support of those who have also served our country,” said Wendy Lakso, director for outreach and education at the Defense Suicide Prevention Office. “This new initiative recognizes the unique challenges faced within the military community, promotes awareness, reduces . . . stigma, and provides solutions for breaking through barriers when it comes to seeking help.”
