COLORADO: Colorado Launching Suicide Prevention Efforts

Colorado is planning to roll out youth suicide prevention efforts over the next two to three years. The state attorney general’s office has awarded $2.8 million in grants to bolster pediatric mental health care and school mental health programs. Funding will support Partners for Children’s Mental Health, a group led by Children’s Hospital Colorado that will evaluate the state’s mental health services and identify areas for improvement. Partners for Children’s Mental Health plans to pilot a service that will help providers determine the most effective treatments for patients and create an assessment for pediatric social workers to help support families. In partnership with Mental Health Colorado, the group will also implement a mental health toolkit in schools across the state. The toolkit contains 10 best practices for school-based suicide prevention and mental health programming.
