Torri Shack, CEO and founder of Tangible Movement, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is a transformative advocate at the nexus of mental health and LGBTQIA2S+ issues. Shack is a two-time suicide attempt survivor, a recovering drug addict and alcoholic, and a person living with a mental illness. He identifies as transgender, using he/him pronouns. He graduated magna cum laude with a degree in history and international relations from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Beyond his advocacy work, he is the CEO and founder of Resilient Consultancy, which specializes in small business and nonprofit consulting.
Since Shack founded Tangible Movement in 2016, it has become known for its efforts to break down the stigmas associated with mental health, suicide, addiction, LGBTQIA2S+ equity, and gender identity. The organization does this by offering resilience training workshops and lived experience perspective presentations at educational institutions, corporations, and conferences throughout the United States. Shack’s lived experience and insights are the foundation for these transformative programs. His advocacy is deeply rooted in his experiences with addiction, depression, and longstanding mental health challenges.
In addition to leading Tangible Movement, Shack serves on the board of directors for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Northern Nevada. He is a certified educator and facilitator for NAMI’s mental health initiatives and a certified educator for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. He also serves on SPRC’s Lived Experience Advisory Committee and on the board of directors of Our Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit advocating for Northern Nevada’s LGBTQIA2S+ community.
Motivated by his mental health, recovery, and acceptance journey, Shack aims to revolutionize the discourse and action surrounding mental health, suicide prevention, LGBTQIA2s+ equity, and gender identity. Through collaborative efforts and community engagement, he seeks to foster empathy and provide tangible resources to teach resilience, aspiring to create a ripple effect of change across the nation and potentially the globe.
