Josie Caballero (Vice Chair)

Born and raised in small-town Texas, Josie Caballero manages the U.S. Transgender Survey (USTS) at the National Center for Transgender Equality. She organizes and coordinates researchers, academics, and activists to ensure the scientific integrity and efficacy of the USTS. She is a Navy veteran who worked as a nuclear reactor operator for six years. She is also a former candidate for political office and has most recently worked in political management and consulting across the U.S.

Caballero’s devotion to suicide prevention comes from her deeply personal experience as a survivor of suicidal ideation, and as a military veteran, a queer trans woman, and a person of color who grew up in poverty.
