SCOTLAND: Peterhead FC Tackling Suicide and Depression Risks
January 12, 2018
A soccer club in Scotland will provide suicide prevention training to its players and officials. In collaboration with the Choose Life suicide prevention organization, Peterhead Football Club plans to offer training sessions that will encourage players to take care of their mental health and seek help when they are struggling. The Scottish Football Association, which serves as the governing body of soccer in Scotland, also runs a program that offers mental health services to clubs, players, coaches, and referees. “It is really encouraging to see the lengths Peterhead as a club are prepared to go to look after their players’ well-being and it would be great to see this project with Choose Life rolled out at other clubs,” said Michelle Evans, head of communications and well-being at Professional Footballers’ Association Scotland.
