World report on violence and health

The goals of the report are to raise awareness about the problem of violence globally, and to make the case that violence is preventable and that public health has a crucial role to play in addressing its causes and consequences.
More specific objectives are to: describe the magnitude and impact of violence throughout the world; describe the key risk factors for violence; give an account of the types of intervention and policy responses that have been tried and summarize what is known about their effectiveness and make recommendations for action at local, national and international levels. The information covers the following topics: Violence – a global public health problem; Youth violence; Child abuse and neglect by parents and other caregivers; Violence by intimate partners; Abuse of the elderly; Sexual violence; Self-directed violence; Collective violence and Recommendations for action.

Practice guidelines for psychiatric consultation in the general medical setting

Drafted by a work group consisting of psychiatrists with clinical and research expertise in the field, this guideline is intended to delineate the knowledge base, professional expertise, and integrated clinical approach necessary to effectively manage this complex and diverse patient population. This is a document from 1988 that contains operational criteria to assist coroners and medical examiners in determining suicide. The criteria were arrived at by a working group representing coroners, medical examiners, statisticians, and public health agencies.
