A new law lays the foundation for a comprehensive children’s mental health care system in Iowa. Recently signed by the governor, the purpose of the measure is to make mental health care available to all children across the state regardless of background. It calls on Iowa’s 14 mental health regions to make services available for kids, such as crisis resources. The law also establishes a state board to provide guidance, coordination, and oversight for the system. “This landmark legislation will ensure that young Iowans suffering from mental illness will be treated with dignity and respect on the road to well-being for generations to come,” said Governor Kim Reynolds.
